This course is designed specifically for Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) dedicated to supporting students with diverse needs. This course will show you the importance and application of meaningful sensory boxes, powerful tools that aid in self-regulation, sensory stimulation, language development, cognitive growth, motor skills and emotional regulation. Participants will learn how to create and use these sensory boxes to foster a nurturing and effective learning environment for students with additional needs.

What you will learn:

  • Understand the role of sensory boxes in supporting regulation: Participants will be able to explain how sensory boxes support self-regulation, emotional control and sensory processing in students with diverse needs.
  • Identify links between sensory input and student development: Participants will recognise how sensory experiences can positively impact language development, cognitive growth, motor skills and emotional well-being.
  • Design purposeful and personalised sensory boxes: Participants will be able to select appropriate materials and create sensory boxes tailored to individual student needs, preferences and sensitivities.
  • Implement sensory strategies within daily classroom routines: Participants will develop practical strategies for integrating sensory boxes into lessons, transitions and support moments to maximise student engagement.
  • Use sensory tools to respond effectively to student needs: Participants will build confidence in choosing and using appropriate sensory tools to support students experiencing anxiety, frustration or sensory overload.

Magdalena Landziak

Magdalena Landziak is a passionate educator and experienced Special Needs Assistant with over 10 years of experience supporting children with additional needs in a primary school. She works as a tutor delivering QQI Level 5 and 6 SNA courses and provides CPD training for various Education Centres across Ireland. Recognising the need for ongoing, tailored support for SNAs, Magdalena founded SNA Academy to deliver practical, research-informed training and resources. She is also the Editor of AMYGDALA – the First National Magazine for SNAs, sharing insights, strategies, and inspiration to enhance inclusive practice in schools. Magdalena holds a Master’s degree in Inclusive Education and SEN, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate (level 9) in 21st Century Teaching and Learning from Trinity College Dublin.
